Getting Married in Vermont? Where to keep the guests?

By Best Wedding DJ's, June 16, 2011

If you are coming from New York or Boston to get married here in Vermont, you might want to think about making the trip even more memorable for your guests. There is no question that Vermont is the ultimate wedding destination. The Green Mountain State is the most picturesque place for a verdant June wedding. Staying at a B&B is the icing on the cake.

The two most popular locations for a Vermont Wedding are the Champlain Valley and the Mad River Valley.  Both are breathtakingly beautiful. And Both are home to some great B&Bs. Here’s a closer look at a couple great places to stay in the Champlain and Mad River Valleys.

Here are two historic B&Bs in  the Champlain Valley (click on the images to go to the site):

This is the entrance to the Sinclair Inn in Jericho, VT. The Inn has hardwood floors, wonderful porches and spectacular perennial gardens, a pond, and even a waterfall… This is a view from one of the rooms at the Sinclair B&B. It is such a peaceful place,  you can feel your blood pressure start to lower just by looking
The Heart of the Village is in the middle of Shelburne. While it is not a bustling metropolis, Shelburne is a bit busier than Jericho. The Heart of the Village Inn is right across the street from the Shelburne Museum. The Inn is about 4 mikes away from Lake Champlain. This is the view from the porch. No Vermont B&B is worth its salty without a good porch and some rocking chairs. But if your guests are looking for more than flowers and views, the Heart of the Village Inn is just 20 minutes to Burlington.

The Mad River Valley has a wonderful laid back quality in summer. Many Inns and B&B’s are pet friendly, which can make attendance at your wedding easier for the dog lovers in your family. Her are two favorites in the Mad River Valley:

A four-poster bed in the Laurel Room at the Beaver Pond B&B in Warren, VT. You can rent the entire Bed and Breakfast for as little as $575 a night. The inn is beautiful, the breakfasts spectacular (the innkeepers are firm believers in supporting local farmers). No pets…sorry Fido. The Millbrook Inn is in Waitsfield. A classic cape-style farm house built in the 1850′s, the Millbrook also features “The Octagon House”a glass house on a hill above a pond. In the summer, meals are served al fresco on the patio. This B&B Is part of the Vermont Pet-friendly network.

The Green Mountain State is the most picturesque place for a verdant June wedding. A B&B seems to most appropriate lodging for such an auspicious event. This B&B website breaks down Vermont Inns by region. This website is dedicated to B&Bs in the Mad River Valley.

It’s not tto late to make reservations for you 2012 Vermont Wedding, but call soon and congratulations.

Looking for a Vermont Wedding Photographer? Go for the Adventure

You are getting married in Vermont. You’ve carefully chosen your wedding venue for the aesthetics that will set the stage for your wonderful day. You’ve arranged for the flowers and the food. Now you need your wedding photographer. Grandma has finally mastered her new digital camera, but this is no day for “snap shots.” Choose your wedding photographer with care. Sorry, Grandma.

Photographers Brian Mohr and Emily Johnson of Ember Photography have a yen for beauty and spectacle. They ski, snowshoe, pedal, hike, climb trees, bushwhack, surf, kayak, run to the ultimate photo shot. From the high Arctic to the Andes to Vermont, Brian and Emily live by the play of natural light. They are on the road four months out of the year on photo shoots for Patagonia, Outside Magazine, Backcountry Magazine, and others.

But you’re looking for a wedding photographer, why should you care about these adventure junkies? Three reasons: they are incredible photographers, they spend their summers at home in Vermont and New England, and they love weddings!

In a recent phone interview, Brian got a little emotional about the weddings he and Emily have photographed. “We feel so lucky to travel to such beautiful parts of Vermont to capture a celebration of love…It’s hard not to get too emotional, but this is the essence of what’s going on…There is so much beauty and love, it definitely hits.” See what I mean?

Brian and Emily photograph weddings as a team. As business partners and husband and wife they have worked out a system of signals that simultaneously mean “This is so beautiful, my heart aches,” and  “I love you,” and “Get back to work.” They silently cue each other from opposites sides of the wedding venue. They have learned to find a balance between getting swept away by emotion and maintaining their professional objectivity so they can perfectly capture the essence on YOUR  perfect day.

You’ll want to hire Brian and Emily for their artistry and lightning-fast reflexes. Years of adventure photography has taught them how to handle extreme weather and unexpected situations. They will catch the action and fleeting moments more traditional wedding photographers might miss.

Their work outdoors has also taught them to cultivate the beauty of natural light and push it to its limit. Natural light photography has a quality and authenticity that is not repeatable under artificial light.  Natural light produces the best flesh tones and the greatest depth of detail in the environs. Of course, Brian and Emily are great at flash photography, but natural light is their preference. “People just look better in natural light.” You can be sure they will put YOU in your best light.

Good. We’ve got emotion, talent, lightning-fast reflexes, and great lighting. Without a plan, the combo adds up to a James Bond movie. The element that brings it all together is the PLAN. Emily and Brian meet with the wedding couple ahead of time to make a plan. Even the idea of the plan helps the wedding couple understand the flow of the day in ways they may not have considered before. It can relive some stress and make room for more creativity.

Having a great plan makes it all work. This is the biggest reason you’ll hire Emily and Brian for your wedding photos: they know how to make it all work.

How to Choose a good Vermont Wedding DJ

By Best Wedding DJ's, January 18, 2010

Take your time, choose a good DJ for your wedding. We can help...

A good DJ can make or break your wedding reception…We’d like to suggest a great DJ who can help make the event everything you’ve been dreaming of, but don’t take it from us. Here are some tips that will empower you to choose the best DJ for your Vermont wedding:

Talk to your Wedding Reception Venue: You already have a relationship with your wedding reception venue. You can trust them as a source of good information about good Vermont wedding DJs. They have worked with many and probably have some favorites.

Word of Mouth: Even in the age of blogging DJs, word-of-mouth is a great way to figure out which DJ is right for you. Talk to recent newlyweds. Find out about their DJ experience. Ask them what they liked and disliked about their DJ. Ask them what they would change if they had the chance to do it all over again.

We'll take the worry out of finding the right DJ for your Vermont wedding...

Ask Your Caterer: Chances are good that your caterer has had to listen to many wedding DJs. He or she will definitely have some favorites. You can count on your caterer for good advice. Your relationship with your wedding caterer is important. Your happiness is an important part of their business.

Go to Your Friends’ Weddings: Have a great time, dance, and have fun. But make some mental notes about the music. Notice the things you love about the DJ; notice things you’d have done differently at your wedding reception.

Or just give us a call: 1-800-639-6380
You may have some pretty clear ideas about what you don’t want in a Wedding DJ, we can give you some help finding what you do!
